The Avant Guard

black and white photograph of a pedestrian tunnel by Doug Couvillion

The tunnel under the train tracks in Alexandria, VA always looks damp and forbidding.  I’ve walked past it many times and it always seems to draw my attention.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Reflecting

photo by Doug Couvillion of Doug Couvillion reflected in sunglasses

Sitting at a table in a restaurant I noticed the lighting gave my sunglasses a mirror effect and decided to take this photo with my iPhone.  It seemed like the perfect choice for this week’s photo challenge theme, <a href=”https://dailypost.wordpress.com/photo-challenges/reflecting/”>Reflecting</a&gt;.

What are you looking at?

Photograph by Doug Couvillion: Southern Toad

This Southern Toad lives among the ferns and Hostas in my yard.  On a recent evening it was hanging out on the patio waiting for the lights to draw dinner in.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Vivid

Traditions De France

photograph of Traditions De France store in Old Town Alexandria, VA

During the walking part of my commute through Old Town Alexandria I kept my eyes open for vivid images.  Normally I walk on the same side of the street as Traditions De France so I pass right by without really seeing it.  Viewed from across the street it really does make for a vivid image.

Back Alley, Richmond, VA

black and white photograph of an alley in Richmond, VA

The other side of the building on the right is a lovely little downtown restaurant.  It’s funny how quickly the scene changes when you walk half a block, around to this end of the building.  Despite the litter and trash, I like the lines, the flow and the contrast of this image.
