Curious White-Tailed Deer Fawn

This White-Tailed Deer fawn kept looking up to see what I was doing as I approached.  I never got close enough for it to move away but it kept pretty close tabs on what I was up to.  Luckily the lighting worked in my favor and I was able to capture this image with a catch light in the deer’s eye.

Photograph of a whilte-tailed deer resting in a meadow

About a week ago I visited the Big Meadow section of Shenandoah National Park, specifically looking for deer.  As I walked through the meadow I noticed this White-Tailed Deer watching me.  I was able to get much closer, the deer in the park are quite used to people, but I like this image of the meadow with the deer resting in it.

Chipmunk On Rock

This chipmunk was scurrying among the rocks of the Firehole River in Yellowstone National Park.  It stopped on a nice sunny rock long enough for me to take this photo.

On The Prowl

This black bear slowly wandered through a meadow while we watched it from a safe distance.  I wish the lighting had been better but that’s one of the challenges of wildlife photography.

A black bear and her two cubs look for food among fallen timber.  While we watched they periodically stopped and clawed at the fallen trees.  I can only assume they were after the insects inside the logs.

Running Pronghorn

Pronghorn are said to be the second fastest animal on land.  We were lucky enough to find a small herd of them during our visit to Yellowstone National Park and this one was practically showing off for us.

Angry Ground Squirrel

Late one evening I discovered a large colony of ground squirrels living around a tree.  I woke up early the next morning and quietly walked through their territory.  Doing so I began to realize the core group remained together near a tree but several individuals acted as perimeter security.  This one seemed to be warning the others of my presence.

Blondie

This bison sat resting on a hillside in Yellowstone National Park when we saw it.  Since most of the bison are dark brown we nicknamed this one Blondie.
