Fawn In The Vineyard

photograph of a whitetail deer

I followed a small group of whitetail deer from quite a distance when they entered a vineyard.  This one seemed almost as curious about me as I was about it.  It allowed me to take a few photographs before disappearing deeper into the vineyard.

Albemarle at Sunset

Panoramic photograph of a rural landscape at sunsetI took this panoramic shot just east of the Appalachian mountains in Albemarle County,Virginia.  I happened to be passing by at sunset.  Despite the lack of clouds to provide a colorful sky, the valley itself seemed to almost glow in the late evening sun.  Like all of the photos on my blog, you can click on the image above to see a larger, more detailed version of it.

Sunrise in the Garden

Clouds Over the Vineyard

Photograph of dramatic clouds over a vineyardDark clouds swept across the sky as I searched for photographic subjects in this vineyard.  I blended two differently exposed photos of the scene to create this HDR version of the image.

Mistflower After the Rain

photograph of a mistflower plant after a rain stormI came upon these mistflowers in a meadow, after a rain storm in early September.  The rain drops weighed down the flowers and made them difficult to identify.  Regardless, these wildflowers provided the meadow with a pop of purple color.

Grass Seedpod

black and white photograph of a grass seedpodThe long stem of this wild grass silently hangs above competing weeds, wildflowers and native plants, patiently waiting for its seeds to drop.  Some will be eaten by birds and field mice.  Others will fall in places they cannot germinate.  But for eons these simple seeds have dropped from similar pods carrying the lessons of their ancestors.  Each year enough find their way into the earth to continue the silent tradition.

Blue

Photograph of bright blue grapesThis picture was taken after a rain shower in the early evening of a warm September day.  Between the rain dripping off the porcelain vine berries and the bright, mixed colors of the ripening fruit I couldn’t resist getting a few photos of them.
