Home At Last

Despite the rough surf and rocks of Panalu’u Bay, Hawaii the beach is frequented by Green Sea Turtles.  These two were taking a well deserved rest on the black sand after braving the conditions to make it to the beach.

Gold Dust Day Gecko, I

This Gold Dust Day Gecko was sunning itself on the trunk of a tree, probably hoping a tasty insect would wander by, when I noticed it.

 

What are you looking at?

This Southern Toad lives among the ferns and Hostas in my yard.  On a recent evening it was hanging out on the patio waiting for the lights to draw dinner in.

Flying Along The River Bank

Great Blue Heron’s never hang around long once they notice you’re paying attention to them.  I paddled past this one at a distance and ignored it until I got close enough to snap a few pictures.

Osprey Hovering In Flight

Osprey’s are one of many fishing birds that will hover in mid-air when they see a potential meal.  To stop themselves they push their wings forward which creates the dramatic shape displayed here.

Just Above The Waves

I love watching pelicans glide effortlessly over the ocean.  They hang in the air, sometimes just inches off the water, bobbing up and down with the passing waves.

Grackle In The Surf

This Grackle seems to have learned a few things from the Sanderlings on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.  It waited for the waves to bring tiny mollusks and crustaceans into the shore and then tried to catch them before they dug into the sand.  I captured this image just as the Grackle realized the wave was a little too big.
