This killdeer was patrolling the shoreline of Lake Yellowstone, spending most of its time on the semi-submerged rocks just beyond the shore.

Raven Taking Flight
I saw this raven land on the stump and was hoping to photograph it when it took off. Luckily it didn’t sit there too long so I was ready when it took flight.
Red Bark
This tree stood along a trail I was hiking one morning. I thought the vivid, rusty bark contrasting with the greens of the moss and pines made this an interesting study of color and texture. The early morning shade provided the perfect soft, even light to produce the deeply saturated colors just as I remember seeing them.
Chipmunk On Rock
This chipmunk was scurrying among the rocks of the Firehole River in Yellowstone National Park. It stopped on a nice sunny rock long enough for me to take this photo.
Little Black Spider
I nearly stepped on this small black and red spider before I noticed it hanging out on a lichen covered rock.
On The Prowl
This black bear slowly wandered through a meadow while we watched it from a safe distance. I wish the lighting had been better but that’s one of the challenges of wildlife photography.
Black Bear With Cubs
A black bear and her two cubs look for food among fallen timber. While we watched they periodically stopped and clawed at the fallen trees. I can only assume they were after the insects inside the logs.
Grand Prismatic Spring I
As hot mineral water seeps out of the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park it leaves tiny layers of minerals. The heat of the water provides an ideal environment for bacteria, which grow in colorful mats over the wavy mineral deposits. The end result is an amazing display of color and texture.
Running Pronghorn
Pronghorn are said to be the second fastest animal on land. We were lucky enough to find a small herd of them during our visit to Yellowstone National Park and this one was practically showing off for us.
